Nothing is enough to help you understand if you don't want to - and if you know, I don't need to say. But it still all deserves witnessing. So here's what my anniversary means today.
This is so powerful Caitlin. Your words have really moved me and also educated me. I suffer from a different invisible illness so much of this is resonating with me personally too. Thanks for sharing and bringing awareness it’s dark and beautiful all at the same time. Wishing you recovery and vitality x
It's so odd isn't it when illness isn't invisible - sometimes feeling like you've been hit by a truck, but then having to convince everyone the truck does in fact exist...!
Dark and beautiful sums up the experience to a T - although maybe mostly the first one.
If you don't already know about GriefSick I highly recommend it... xxc
You’re so right, people struggling with Long Covid deserved to be witnessed and not forgotten.❤️
I cannot begin to imagine how debilitating it must have been for you on the onset of it, but you’re so brave sharing this with the world. It’s dark and beautiful all at once.❤️
Dear Caitlin. Thank you for writing and sharing your experiences with long covid.
In 2024, I continue to take precautions to not get it or spread it. As a young mother, before social media, tele-health, and work from home options, I suffered for years from an undiagnosed illness. I understand the havoc it plays on every aspect of one’s life, including finances and relationships. Whether we wake up one day lacking the energy to pump our legs on a swing with our children or our home is destroyed in a disaster, we learn “Who loved me when I was whittled down to my core and so much more in need - and who did not.” Thoughtfully shared experiences like yours will hopefully bring better understanding, diagnosis, and affordable effective treatments for post viral illnesses. Gentle hugs to you and to your support people.

Thanks for sharing GriefSick, Caitlin, I'm so excited you're on Substack! "Dark and beautiful", that is exactly it, Mary xx
This is so accurate, especially the violent chasm that the experience has been, rather than slipping through the cracks...so. true.
